Buck, Wilma and Hawk join a search party on a mission to the uninhabited planet Phibocetes, hoping to locate precious thurbidian crystals that are needed to power the Searcher’s crippled engines. While exploring the volcanic surface, they are attacked by a vicious, mummy-like creature, and Buck encounters a beautiful young woman named Laura, who has no memory of her origins. While the landing party’s attempts to find the crystals are continually hampered by the mummy’s violent assaults, Crighton discovers that there is a connection between Laura and the creature - one that could soon endanger the lives of Buck and the others…
